Are garden ponds a good selling point?

Posted under Advice by Alan

Garden ponds are areas of peace and tranquillity. People can use them as a place to go and unwind after a hard days work. They also add to the overall look of a garden, giving it that added visual appeal.

When it comes to letting a property, it is a good idea to emphasise all the unique points. While ponds are somewhat common, not every property has one so they are still quite distinctive and special. However, the problem with ponds is they aren’t to everyone’s liking. People who prefer to have a flower garden may see them as wasted garden space, so unless the garden is really large, these potential clients may be put-off. There are also people who might want a low maintenance letting and ponds can require a significant amount of upkeep if you want them looking nice.

If you do decide to go the route of installing garden ponds in the garden, it might be a good idea to design it with a rockery theme or add some simple yet good-looking water features. It probably isn’t a good idea to keep fish in the pond as your clientèle may not want to worry about looking after them. Plus with fish you get the added costs of specialised pond pumps and filters.

So the decision is up to you, if you have the space, time and money it may be worthwhile considering garden ponds. But remember they aren’t to everyone’s tastes.
