Deposit Protection Service releases findings on landlords-tenants disputes

Posted under General by Jermaine

The Deposit Protection Service (DPS), managed by Computershare Investor Service, a global deposit protection specialist, has released its latest report on disputes pertaining to landlords and tenants in the UK. It reveals that tenants in south-east of England are mostly at odds with their landlords.

40% of disputes are reported from this region. Analysis of data shows that 52% of disputes pertained to damage of property by tenants and 36% were related to issues of cleaning.

Second-highest level of disputes (15%) was reported from north-east followed by south-west at 12% and north-west and west Midland at 11% each.

Cities have been ranked as: London – the worst offender, followed by Bristol, Manchester and Newcastle.

According to DPS director, Kevin Firth, disputes though large in numbers are relatively of small nature. However some serious offences by tenants have also come to light. One landlord complained that his rental premise was being used as brothel while properties of several landlords were converted into cannabis factories by the tenants.

DPS currently manages 329,000 live deposits worth £250 million and is growing steadily with registration of nearly 250 new landlords on daily basis. Its services are free since business is funded by the interest earned from deposits.
